Human Resources, student records, curriculum, and administrative support), implementing and maintaining local area and wide area networks throughout the district, supporting existing traditional phone systems as well as the implementation/maintenance of VoIP (network based) phone systems, support of the bell systems, and implementation/maintenance of security cameras.
Information Technology is responsible for providing desktop maintenance support for personal computer (PC) users throughout the district, utilizing three Computer Specialists and one Help Desk support personnel. This includes a Call Support Center that functions as a traditional Help Desk for the entire district for computer related calls as well as networking support, dispatching onsite support for both hardware and software issues. Information Technology provides hardware and software installation for administrative and curriculum departments as well as provides general support for the district.
Information Technology is responsible for the quality-assured integration of technology in the district's schools. The department performs project management and installation associated with networking 12 district schools and 2 administration locations, from server to desktop. This includes equipment installation for both Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) communication and all levels of associated software. Information Technology is responsible for providing complete networking support for the entire school district. Including support to all district schools and administrative sites, all networking equipment such as servers, network printers, etc., as well as network security related activities.
Information Technology is responsible for the operation and maintenance of district-wide enterprise computer-based student records systems, PowerSchool, and aggregating student record information for the State of Nevada mandated System for Accountability Information (SAIN) project.
Information Technology has been integral in implementing the Douglas County School District’s mandated Competency-based reporting including the custom programming of the extraction of this information from the student record’s software into a Competency Report Card distributed twice a year to all secondary students in the school district.
