PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME MESSAGE

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and the 2011-12 school year.   I come to work each day feeling privileged to serve as your principal and to be entrusted with the incredible responsibility of leading this learning community during a time of significant change and tremendous possibilities.  Our motto for 2011-12 is “Quality Education: A Community Commitment”.   As a school community, we are committed to providing a climate conducive to learning where every student has the right and opportunity to learn.  Together, our challenge is to embrace the future of the 21st Century and assure that our students are properly prepared to become leaders in a competitive world.  In order to accomplish this, we must provide the following:  a high level of personalization in every aspect of a student’s middle school experience, a proud recognition for personal and school accomplishments as well as for diligence and hard work, and, an unwavering commitment to the development of character and civic responsibility in our young people.

To our students, I ask that you reflect on your goals and strive not only to pursue personal excellence, but also to demonstrate your perseverance and integrity.  I encourage you to get involved in one or more activities our school has to offer, as your participation in these opportunities will open new doors, enable you to meet new people, and reveal incredible possibilities on which to grow.  Know that our entire staff is here to support and encourage you as you explore different possibilities and mature as learners.  Remember that with these opportunities, comes both a personal and collective responsibility to be supportive of one another.  I will count on you to go beyond tolerance and treat all students of Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School with respect.  A school that aspires to greatness can expect no less.

To our staff, I pledge my commitment to work together as we strive to fulfill our district’s mission,

“The Douglas County School District, in partnership with parents and community, will ensure that all students are competent in the basic skill areas, demonstrate continuous achievement toward educational excellence, and reach their highest potential as productive, responsible citizens.”

We pursue these goals from a background of strong values and a deep cultural heritage within the Carson Valley.  In preparing our students for this 21st century world, we must find our strength in a shared determination to inspire students to find their passion and to challenge them to follow their dreams.  While assuring that we do our part to ensure they have the skills necessary to achieve those dreams.

To our parents, it is through your support that we make a significant difference in the lives of our students.  As the first teachers in your child’s life, we need your support and cooperation.   As we strive to take Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School to higher achievement levels, our partnership becomes that much more critical.  The Pau-Wa-Lu community has dedicated itself completely to the education of its students and has placed great trust in our school.  I understand the importance of this trust and vow to work for the best interests of our students and community.

Serving as principal of Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School is as great an honor as it is a responsibility.  I believe that the foundation of our future accomplishments will be found in the power of our combined efforts and the strength of our collaboration.  Please know my door is always open to you.  If you need assistance or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am here to serve you and help ensure each student at Pau-Wa-Lu receives the best education possible.

My Best,

Keith Lewis
Principal
