Welcome to George Whittell High School (GWHS). My name is Crespin Esquivel, I am the Principal at GWHS.

George Whittell High School (GWHS) is a small 7-12 secondary school nestled in the forest of Lake Tahoe in Zephyr Cove, Nevada. The school is one of four high schools in Douglas County School District. At GWHS, we pride ourselves as being a Nevada High Achieving School. Students range from high to low socio-economic backgrounds, creating a diverse climate of learners. As of count day, GWHS had an enrollment of 211 students, 74 enrolled in middle school and 137 enrolled in high school.

New School Attendance Requirement for Driver’s Licenses - Beginning January 1, 2015, State Law requires that anyone under the age of 18 who applies for an instruction permit, driver’s license or driver authorization card must provide the DMV with proof that he or she meets the minimum school attendance requirements. For more information, please click here.

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) - In 2010, Nevada adopted the Common Core State Standards and shortly after became a governing state of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. This school year, Whittell was selected to be field tested. To read more about how this will affect our school and your students, please click here
