My teaching experiences include literature, social studies, speech, reading, family literacy and education classes at the middle school through college/university level. My studies have allowed me to focus on literature, social studies as well as family and adolescent literacy.
How I can help you...
Individually:
- Provide assistance for 7-12 teachers who request individual help in the areas of planning, preparation, classroom management, or instructional strategies through both observation, follow-up, modeling or co-teaching.
Schools/Small Groups:
- Create specific workshops that align with school improvement plans/state and district standards.
- Facilitate professional book-clubs.
- Present or co-present "book talks" in classrooms or school libraries.
- Model the use of literature & textbook circles within the classroom. (Think "modified bookclub")

Some of my favorite things...
for secondary teachers:
Picture Books-I've used picture books for years to introduce themes in history, teach writing traits, elements of plot, voice inflection for speech...you name it! There are several resources that list picture books to be used in the secondary classroom. Some include:
- Literature for History-Social Science: Kindergarten through Eight
- Books, Lessons, Ideas For Teaching the Six Traits:
Writing at middle and high school
- Picture Books: An annotated bibliography with activities for teaching writing with the 6+1 trait writing model
